What do female preflowers look like

But many growers buy clones or feminized seeds that guarantee their plants will have female reproductive parts. The female plants are more sought after because they grow sensimilla, which are the large, seedless buds that we understand as a weed. Your plant will begin to reveal its gender to you somewhere in between its 4 and 6-week birthday, which typically comes towards the end of its vegetative state right before it begins to fully flower.

Pre-flowers will show signs of which will be clearly male or female. These pre-flowers will appear in between their nodes, which is where leaves and branches come out of the stalk.

The pollen sacs are just small, round balls that grow at the nodes. Whereas the stigma looks similar but have little white or pink hairs growing out of them. The pre-flowers starts before they even begin serving their reproductive purposes, but they are not always easy to recognize to the naked eye.

If your plants have really small pre-flowers, may need to use a small magnifying glass to determine whether its a pollen sac or a stigma. Producing THC the male cannabis plants are essentially useless, so most growers eliminate the majority of their male plants as soon as the stigma pre-flowers show. You will have more room for the female plants that produce resinous buds.

If it's not showing sex, it means it's not mature. You'll get a better yield if you wait for it to mature. I think most strains take at least 2 months from the time you pop a seed to show sex. Your looking in the right spot, you just need more veg time.

So, here we are a little over a week later and my lone Killing Kush has doubled in size from 8" to 16". I think this plant looks pretty consistent with the images that Middleforker linked me to. Do you guys agree that these are female preflowers from experience or from the pics in the link???

No, I think you just need to be a little more patient and wait for those hairs man That very last pic may have the smallest nubbin of something appearing but still man, just give it another week or two. So it seems to me anyway. Keep watching, man. Don't be fooled by the little spikes as being a female.. A male is easy to spot and they usually show up 2 weeks before the fems show.

Cloning and force-flowering them to make them show their sex quicker is best, IMO. I grow strictly outdoors and sometimes my plants don't show sex until mid to ate August. It's a real drag to grow out plants including time, money and space only to find out they are males that I don't want. To avoid that I clone plants when they have about 6 internodes and put them in 12 hours of dark.

In days they show their sex. Last edited: Apr 10, Welshwizzard said:. Cheap USB microscope pics, but-- these are fairly early View attachment View attachment Separate plants-- haven't seen a hermaphrodite in many years So, after all this time I finally know what a pre flower looks like. The plant I originally showed was a male and I chopped him down boy do I regret it, he out stunk everything else I have going by himself.
