Still a very pretty sight at the falls and luckily still accessible after the severe weather that came through. We hiked this CW from Panthertown Valley parking area. The first mile or more is downhill to the falls, but after that, you go up for about feet. There are great views all along the top of Green Rock Mountain. We continued past two more falls that were so-so, and a freaking beach! A white sand beach along a part of the river.
The entire way back was all flat or downhill until we got to the last mile or 1. Gotta like a hike that includes waterfalls and lovely views. Rooty for yards, then a gravel service road all the way to Schoolhouse Falls, then back to roots. One of my favorite hikes. You get some woods, amazing views and waterfalls.
Went CCW because I wanted to end with waterfall. Only problem is the first four miles was an easy hike and the last two a bit of a workout. Would try clockwise next time to see difference. Only came across about a dozen people the whole six miles. As others have stated keep your Altrails app up to follow along.
We took a couple of offshoots for a better view and shortcut. This is a very rocky trail and lots of roots. You will need hiking shoes. Your feet and ankles will thank you. Lots of offshoots. Make sure to use the All Trails map. The kids loved finding salamanders at the watering hole. Nice beach with waterfall and stream you can wade through. Easy fun hike for all. Kids loved swimming in the pool at the bottom of the fall. What a fun adventure for our first go at Schoolhouse Falls!
Getting to the trailhead took a little figuring out. Take some pictures of the map and the directions at the kiosk. Very helpful. The falls are really pretty and relaxing. Bring a picnic or some snacks to relax and re-energize. Now you must continue up the green trail that goes directly up to the top of the mountain. The views at the top of Black Rock mountain are gorgeous!! Waterfalls and beautiful views on the same hike. The trail could be better marked - I would definitely download the map.
Otherwise - the trail from Cold Mountain trailhead is easy to located stay on trail Schoolhouse falls is beautiful. Excellent family trail. About 35 mins to first falls which was perfect with two teenage daughters not use to hiking!! Bring snacks for rest at falls. The google maps took me to the opposite side of the trailhead.
I use Waze to to type in schoolhouse falls. The trail itself was full of great hidden delights: beaches, waterways, waterfalls x2, and breathtaking outcropping with all the views! Had my dogs. Other than poor gps directions, this trail is phenomenal! Lots of great camping spots too. Really nice hike, multiple water features and views.
Great trail! Fantastic views and Schoolhouse Falls were great. Very cool for everyone. A little over 6 miles and only a few tough uphills. Really a great trail for all!! Just need to download map or pre plan. Counter clockwise is best so the Falls are at the end.
Not a lot of mileage but lots of swim time! Definitely some climbing and muddy in place but a good trail with some great over looks and two neat falls. Nice trail. Easy to get turned around as the trails are only marked at the heads and no real blazes throughout. Pretty beach area and waterfall. If you go clockwise to the waterfall first it will be all uphill your first miles and very rooty.
Took us about 4. Great trail - recommend doing the trail counterclockwise to leave the waterfall for the tail end. Also - there is a small path that follows along the waterfall and you can actually stand behind the waterfall! Super cool view from that vantage point. A little muddy and not very well marked. Be sure and download offline map as there is almost no cell service. I recommend taking the loop counter clockwise so the payoff off the falls is near the end.
Beautiful scenery along the way! Use Navigator in the AllTrails app and join the other outdoor explorers who have completed this trail. Length Off the beaten path trail with views and waterfalls.
